My work in Prismacolor Pastel and in Pencil

Click here for my "how-to" information on using Prismacolor pencils

I enjoy working with Prismacolor pencils. I really have not tried a lot of other brands but I like the brilliant colors and the ease in blending. They have a soft, thick lead and the pigments are light-resistant and waterproof. I actually ended up with three sets of these pencils; so I can keep one set in the house and one in my studio. I like to work on smooth Strathmore paper.

Link to Prismacolor web site Prismacolor makes many art products. They also have artist tips & techniques, promotions, competitions and a gallery on their site.

Link to Strathmore Artist Papers I have used Strathmore Artist Papers for twenty years and love them. I personally like a fine tooth surface, whether I am working in oils, pastels, or pencils. My very favorite is the 400 series Sketch. Only, I use it for final product also.

I may have to rethink this because it does have a tooth that shows through during reproduction with the Prismacolor pencils, as I found out in doing the illustrations for this website.

I currently have two Prismacolors for sale. Please pass your cursor over each photo for more information, including price, of each work. Again, I do send the work protected and some times that means in a frame, but the frames are currently not up to a caliber I am pleased with. Most people prefer to choose frames to match their own taste.

My work in Pencil

This self-portrait was done in Carbon Pencil. It is an extremely time consuming process but won me an Honorable Mention in The Artist's Magazine, portrait competition.

Prismacolor and pencil paintings are shipped in sturdy packaging with foam liners to protect the work from damage. This does add to the cost of the painting but is worth the investment. While I have had pottery destroyed in shipping, I have never had a painting damaged, and I have shipped my work to contests and customers in the United States and foreign countries.

I will soon be adding a PayPal shopping cart, but currently accept U.S.Postal Service Money Orders, as well as payment by PayPal. I have an Indiana Sales Tax ID and so charge sales tax to sales in the state of Indiana.
