She began writing seriously in high school and was on the school newspaper. Her article, "Don't Drop Out" resulted in membership in the Quill and Scroll, International Honor Society for High School journalists.
Her published writing includes many articles about her art that have appeared in newspapers and magazines. Her section of an article

She has a completed mystery novel, in the drawer, that needs editing work yet. This mystery was critiqued and highly praised by mystery author Eleanor Taylor Bland, at the Dark & Stormy Nights conference in Chicago.
She has also completed a children's picture book, which she was readying for submission, before she became entangled in the Moon Tree's world.
Her advanced middle grade fantasy novel is entitled: Moon Tree Brothers. It is to be the first in a series of Moon Tree books. Sheryl became enthralled with the Moon Tree world, after three of her grandsons came to live with her. A series of "what if" discussions ensued and the world grew and became more mysterious.
Her daughter is a sixth grade teacher at a public academy for the gifted, and is currently working on a "Teacher's Guide" companion to the novel.
